The Island of Maui: Valley of the Isle

Maui is the second largest Hawaiian island. It is named after the demigod Maui that drew the Hawaiian islands up from the ocean, the Valley of the Isle.
According to a legend, Maui captured the Sun and forced it to slow its journey across the sky. Maui secured the promise of long days of joy and happiness of the people and visitors of the island. Today, it is said the Sun resides in the beautiful East Maui Volcano, Haleakala. It is knows as the “House of the Sun.”
