Whalers Village

Whalers Village continues to be the premier shopping and dining destination in Kaanapali. Here island style and sophistication blend in a combination of 60 fine shops and restaurants. Over the past years there has been many changes that are good and bad. Some of the small shops are replaced by commercial brands but overall there is always a good balance of shopping and dining choices.
There is also a free museum that showcases the whaling history, tools and artifacts. Whalers Village brings it all together with the option to walk along the beach, people watch and chill out.

Black Rock

Black Rock, a Ka’anapali landmark, represents a fun place to snorkel, swim or just relax. At each sunset, you can watch the cliff divers gracefully take the leap in the ocean. Watching it definitely takes your breath away. In the evening, you can watch the torch lighting ceremony which lights each torch on the top of Black Rock. The less known fact about Black Rock is it’s cultural significance. As told in tales, legends and chant, Black Rock is a ceremonial place for spirits to go to the next place. Enjoy this beautiful and fun place in Ka’anapali and may you better appreciate Black Rock for it’s cultural significance.

Kihei, Maui

Kihei is a town located in the southwest edge of Maui. There are a lot of development occurring in Kihei. I vividly remember when roads compressed rough/rocks and that driving through Kihei took a long time. Now, Kihei is surrounded with shops, dining and mini malls.
If you are in Kihei and would like to learn more about the marine life in the Hawaiian islands, visit Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, 726 South Kihei Road (808)879-2828. This facility provides education and promotes research about local humpback whale population. The sanctuary is also home to a unique array of marine plants and animals found nowhere else in the world.
During February, Maui Whale Day is celebrated. This is a free, all-day festival in the Kalama Park in Kihei. This is Maui’s biggest and longest running celebration. A parade is also accompanied with this celebration.
