Lahaina, Maui

Lahaina town is located in the north west side of Maui. It is where galleries, shops, restaurants, and hangouts are located. Lahaina town started way back in the 16th century. It was an ancient Hawaiian fishing village. Then westerners began sailing to the Hawaiian islands and Lahaina became a popular town due to it’s natural harbor. During this time there were lots of fish markets lining the streets. They were situated along Front street. Front street is the main thoroughfare from north to south.

Today, Lahaina is definitely not just another port town. It has evolved to be a fun nostalgic town, full of history and rejuvenation.  Over the past 11 years, I observed that although the buildings and anchor shops remain mostly unchanged the many stores that line Front street are dynamic and full of changes.

There are a lot of points of interest to talk about Lahaina from it’s history, culture, attractions, and dining. I will be talking more specifically about those points of interests in later posts.
